Founded in 1989 by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, the Istanbul Theatre Festival has grown into one of Turkey’s most important performing arts events. Held each autumn, it presents both local and international theatre and dance, from classics to bold contemporary works. Performances are staged across the city, not only in traditional theatre halls but also in alternative venues, reflecting Istanbul’s vibrant and diverse character. Alongside productions, the festival hosts workshops, masterclasses, and panels, fostering dialogue and supporting young artists.
