Moda is one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Istanbul. This partially explains why there are so many antique and vintage shops scattered throughout the neighourhood. Most homes of long-term residents in Moda are decorated with objects and furniture inherited from their parents and grandparents, unlike relatively recent neighbourhoods in the city, where most homes resemble one another with “modern” furniture. Passing by the windows of homes in Moda, you can see old paintings and engravings on the walls, turn-of-the-century furniture, libraries full of precious books, antique lamps, and even pianos. The homes of the younger generations are more eclectic but still preserve the old spirit of the neighbourhood, combining both the old and the new in their unique style. Even most cafes and restaurants in the neighbourhood are decorated in a vintage style.

One of my favorite vintage stores in Moda is ArtDepo. You can find it on your way to Moda Club by the seaside. The store is full of meticulously chosen and restored vintage and antique objects and furniture. The owner is passionate about every item, and each piece is a fine example of its period. From rugs to lamps, from artsy objects to furniture, the store offers a cornucopia of treasures for those vintage lovers like me.
