The story of the brand goes back to 1895 when a Frenchman named Jean Cesar Reboul came to Istanbul on his way to visit his father who was an engineer on a road project in Hopa-Trabzon highway and he fell in love with the city and decided to stay here and open up a pharmacy store called Grande Pharmacie Parisienn in Pera (modern day Beyoglu). Soon after, a pharmacy student Kemal Muderrisoglu joined him as an assistant in 1920. Monsieur Reboul asked him to learn French to become his assistant and the young, motivated Mr. Muderrisoglu did. This relationship ended in a fruitful partnership and they grew the ‘reboul’ brand together creating a range of fragrances and colognes for the taste of Istanbulites.
Monsieur Reboul left Istanbul in 1939 leaving the store to Mr. Muderrisoglu who changed its name from ‘Reboul’ to ‘ Rebul’. The store still lives in Pera and it is the oldest living pharmacy in Turkey.
