History of Money

There is an interesting museum in Eminönü and it is the museum of the oldest bank in the country: İşbank. İşbank was established by the founder of the Turkish Republic in 1924 and the bank celebrated its 100th anniversary last year.

The İşbank Museum is inside a beautiful building that deserves to be visited. The building was originally built as the central post office in 1892 but later became the İstanbul branch of İşbank in 1927 and functioned as one till 2004. It is a delight to see the interior of the building which hosts a wonderful exhibition about the establishment of the Turkish Republic on the first floor and the history of İşbank on the second floor.

So if you visit Eminönü on your way to Old Town, don’t miss this secret gem!
