In Loving Memory of a Dear Friend

“All goes onward and outward, nothing collapses,
And to die is different from what any one supposed, and luckier.”

Okan Diköz (1970-2025)

It was about three years ago when we embarked on a journey to create a blog dedicated to İstanbul. The project began with my childhood friend Okan, who had volunteered to be active on the technical side. Later, we went our separate ways, as we had different visions for the same project. This morning, I learned that he passed away unexpectedly—just 20 days before his 55th birthday.

I will always remember him as the eternal child: vibrant and full of ideas that were larger than life. It is heartbreaking to see him go, as he is one of the few people I could never associate with death. He was all about life, growth, new ideas, and the bright side of things. I would have much rather wished him a happy 55th birthday than bid him farewell.

Farewell, eternal child!
