Let’s lend an ear to the Istanbul Symphony composed by the prominent Turkish musician Fazil Say in 2009. The world premiere was realized in Dortmund in March 2010. Turkish audience had a chance to listen to the symphony in October 2010 as a part of the ‘European Cultural Capital’ Project.

Say states that this is a symphony with seven parts, each dedicated to one of the seven hills of the city. The names of parts of the Istanbul Symphony are ”Nostalgia”, ”Religious Order”, ”Blue Mosque”, ”Merrily Dressed Young Ladies Aboard the Ferry to the Princes Islands”, ”About the Travellers to Anatolia Departing from the Haydarpasha Train Station”, ”Carousal Night” and ‘Finale”
While listening the Istanbul Symphony, you will notice the traditional Turkish instruments like ney and zither. Say’s symphony is a masterpiece that takes you away and moves you from grief to joy.
