If you are a modern dance lover, here is the only ‘official’ modern dance group in İstanbul titled Modern Dans Topluluğu İstanbul. What makes it ‘official’ is that it has been formed in the body of National Opera and Ballet. The group was formed in 2011 by a prominent dancer Beyhan Murphy who dedicated her whole life to Modern Dance and mdt-istanbul has been performing not only in İstanbul but across the world for over a decade now.
I would highly recommend you to watch one of its performances when you visit İstanbul which can give you a glimpse of the richness of the cultural scene in İstanbul. I always see the traces of the great master Pina Bausch who was the pioneer of dance theatre when I watch the group’s performances. The group deserves a big applause for their artistic originality derived from the cultural diversity of our culture!
