Intra Muros Istanbul or Sounds of a Lost World

Çağlar Fidan is a talented young artist specialised in old Ottoman and Turkish music. He recently released his album Intra Muros. Intra Muros literally means ‘inside the walls’ referring to the ancient city walls of İstanbul and the album offers a wide panorama of music from old İstanbul. Seven of the eight pieces of the album belong to composers from 17th to 20th centuries. One song was composed by the artist himself and the lyrics of the song belong to Fatih Sultan Mehmet who conquered İstanbul. All songs in the album refer to one particular place and one particular time in the Ottoman Era.

Let’s lend an ear to Çağlar Fidan and his ensemble for the magic of music to transport us to the world before us!

Note that the lyrics of the following song belong to the Sultan who conquered İstanbul in the 15th century and the music was composed by the artist Çağlar Fidan himself. The lyrics is a lament for an unrequited love in which the Sultan says ‘don’t think that beauty will bow to you. you might be the ruler of İstanbul but she is the ruler of Galata.’
